Please join us this Sunday, September 12, 2021 at 10am Central on FaceBook Live as we celebrate Mission Day at Memorial, and remember the work of our very own, the Late Missionary Barbara C. Leake, and all of those who worked with her, and continue the work at Memorial today. Please read below about the history of Mission Day.nnTHE HISTORY OF MISSION DAYnnThe Missionaries of Memorial are governed by Acts 1:8, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Their motto is: “Each One Reach One”. Missionary Barbara C. Leake’s motto was “Send me, I’ll go”.nnIn 2005, Missionary Leake was introduced to a concept that would illuminate the role of mission at Memorial. She and Minister Gloria Jordan were sharing their life experiences in mission service in a telephone conversation. Minister Jordan told Missionary Leake about Mission Day and suggested a Mission Day for Memorial. Missionary Leake immediately recognized the value Mission Day would have for the cause of Christ and also generated revenue for the outreach programs. She contacted Pastor Schaffer and received his enthusiastic approval.nnThe first Mission Day was held in December of 2005. The speaker of the hour was Dr. Charles A Hamilton, Pastor of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago. Thereafter, Pastor Schaffer scheduled the observance for the second Sunday in September as “Mission Day”.nnThis September 2021, we celebrate the Eleventh Annual Missionary Barbara C. Leake Mission Day. It was instituted on June 27, 2009 by Reverend Nathan L. Schaffer, Jr. at the home going service of the late Missionary Leake. Pastor Schaffer bestowed the posthumous honor on Missionary Leake in recognition of her twenty-five years of exemplary, dedicated service to God and to Memorial Missionary Baptist Church.nnMissionary Leake’s vision for Mission Day at Memorial honors generations past who said “Mission is the backbone of the Church”. We are hopeful that the generations following will be called to service.nnIt took a heart filled with the love of Christ to bestow such a significant honor to Missionary Leake. It took a “Pastor with a Shepherd’s Heart”.nnWe praise God for this marvelous day. We pray that many more will be moved to say “Send me, I’ll go”.

We are victorious in Christ!! Happy Monday!
