When the pandemic reduced the availability of lumber and drove up the price, Mark Goyke, operations manager at the Elk Grove Village, Ill. facility, set up a process to recover skids from customers. In just one year, the process: nn• Recovered 1,438 skids (4’ x 10’ and 4’ x12’) that would have ultimately found their way to a landfill nn• Saved the Illinois plant nearly $70,000 in real costs by recovering and reusing skids nn• Spawned similar activity in other Carlisle sites generating an additional $46,500 in savings and preventing close to 2,000 additional skids from entering landfills
