History of the WAD
Women Across Differences (WAD) is a non-governmental organsation, which came into being in 1996, and was launched in 1999. It was also registered under the Companies Act in the same year. WAD is an organization which enables women to empower themselves through access to social and economic resources. It provides a forum for women to meet and encourages them to make their collective voices heard in the area of Public Policy. WAD has a membership of approximately seventy women from regions 3,4,6,7 and 10.
Over the years, WAD has been involved in several programmes, which include, Personal Development, Human Rights, Community Facilitation, Positive Parenting Skills, Preparation of Public Education material (radio messages, brochures, etc), Leadership Development, Women Truth Encounters, Entrepreneurial Development, Community Organizing, Family Enrichment Programmes, Comprehensive Empowerment Programme for Adolescent/ Teenage mothers, Gender Base Violence, Public Health Promotion in schools, Income Generating Programmes, Disaster Preparedness Climate Change and Sexual Reproductive Health.
Organization’s goals WAD aims to increase women’s and youth’s participation in and influence on public policy in Guyana and to develop and sustain a national network of informed and empowered women willing to and capable of brining about change in their lives and those of others in their communities and nationally through sustained dialogue and ready action.
Women Across Differences (WAD) has a number of success stories of individual women as well as with as with organisations.
